What Stemware Do You Use with Normandy Ciders?

by ChaimShraga » Thu Apr 12, 2012 11:06 am

I treated the only one I ever had (Louis Dupont Cidre Reserve) as a wine but I'm not a 100% I chose the right glass. Now I have another bottle and want to improve the experience.

I am trying to remember how I've had cider served in Normandy. I think that it is usually in quite a large glass, closer to a beer glass than to a wine glass, and this website bears out my vague recollection http://www.araven.com/hotellerie/eacute ... rod228/fr/ . Most wine glasses are too small and I think that the tulip shape is not needed to concentrate cider's bouquet. Because of the relatively low alcohol in cider, larger quantities tend to be consumed at a sitting.

Chaim,

I had a vague memory and I verfied it on Viki:

cider is generally served in traditional ceramic bowls (or wide cups) rather than glasses

Reading this, I recall that the bowls were the size of a cereal bowl.

No need to follows the tradition, but IMHO any wide cup/glass will be fine.

Enjoy,
