Tried last night at AquaSanta w/ my buttermilk panna cotta:
1. Forteto della Luja DOC: Loazzolo (duamilaquattro vendemmia tardiva; 11.5%; Lot 01 07) PiasaBischei NV ('07?): Med.dark gold color; very strong grapey/muscatty very fragrant orange blossom/orangey quite perfumed slight earthy clean nose; quite sweet very grapey/muscatty/clean rather orangey/orange blossom fairly tart very intense flavor; very long/lingering very orangey/floral/muscatty/grapey clean bit tart well-structured finish; seems more of orange muscat than the usual Muscat passito. Fairly priced at $40.00/hlf (PMW)

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. I liked this dessert Muscat quite a lot. The DOC Loazzolo was granted in 1990, in the lower part of Asti/Piedmonte.It is a late harvest MuscatoBianco that is aged for about 2 yrs. The grapes are harvested late when they first start to show signs of botrytis. A small fraction are laid on canvas trays to further dry, making a passito wine.
The very perfumed orangey character reminded me more of Fior di Arancia, rather than MuscatBianco. It also resembled the orange muscat from Gomeria's Vignalta Alpanaie, though a bit sweeter. It was quite a good wine, fairly priced, but only slightly better than the Ipsus/Pantelleria passito at TraderJoe's, which is one fourth the price.
