WTN: 2006 Pillar Box Red

Shiraz (50%), Cabernet Sauvignon (42%), Merlot (8%) Padthaway, Australia Consultant winemaker: Chris Ringland. Screwcap. 15% alcohol by volume. Deep purple color; opaque. Leggy on the sides of the glass. Mulberries and black currants on the nose. Taste of dark berries and oak. The Shiraz stands out. Still somewhat tannic and drinking a bit hot. Heavier on the palate than I recall in earlier tastings when it seemed more playful. Mellowed a bit on the third evening, Sediment at the bottom of the bottle. I paired with ratatouille and baked potato for a meatless meal and the last of the bottle with Welsh rarebit I have one more bottle which I will consume this summer with grilled hamburger.
