WTN: Strub 2000 Riesling Spatlese

by Jim Grow » Sun Apr 01, 2012 8:04 pm

This Strub Riesling from the Niersteiner Paterberg vineyard was in excellent condition with bright peach and lemon flavors, a slight spritzy acidity and a medium/light straw color. I was surprised that there was no petrol note. Abv of %9.5. This was one of the wines from my lost German Riesling collection from my off-site cellar and in fine shape with a few more years to go. A Kerpen Kabinett 2002 Riesling consumed a few days ago was slightly maderized but consumed anyway.

That the Strub was ok and the Kerpen not seems more than odd. Even from my cold cellar the 2000s are getting a bit long in the tooth for my taste.
