WTN: 2004 Vollenweider Wolfer Goldgrube Portz Spatlese

Riesling from the Mosel-Saar-Ruwer, Germany. 8 % alcohol. First impression on the nose is a pleasing touch of petrol along with citrus, white peach and white flowers. These notes carry over to the tastebuds in a wine with refreshing minerality. Eminently sippable or even gulpable. Thanks Mike for sending this to me along with three other vintages to try. I love it! Paired with a spinach quiche--Quiche Florentine.

'04 is pretty much my favorite Vollenweider vintage to date.

It's a winner alright
What did you think of the 2009's? I see that Vinopolis in Portland has some listed and I have ordered there before.

Haven't had any of the '09s. I stopped buying after 2007 due to having a bunch of bottles and not caring for the direction (bigger, creamier to my palate) that the wines were headed.

PS. I think you would like the 2009s, JC. Dani did really well that year, though he had ceased to produced LGKs. That notwithstanding, the 2009 GKA is probably the best wine he has ever produced.

Fredrik,

I love the freshness and lift in the '04s. I have not seen the same level of refreshment in any subsequent vintage that I have tried ('05, '06, '07).
