Jojo has been raiding the Burg selection at Straits Wine and invited me to join him and Vince (in town for a short visit) to try a couple at Straits as his own shop, Premium Wine Exchange, was closed.
Bernard Moreau & Fils Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot 2009 - Floral with a touch of smoke and menthol. Lemony with a refreshing acidity and crunchy fruit. Lean but a lot of flavor. Grapefruit finish. Good length. Excellent. Available from Premium Wine Exchange at P 2000+.
Blue Mountain Reserve Chardonnay 2007 - Care of Vince and, naturally, from Okanagan. Slightly cheesy nose. This has a bit of heft compared to the racy Moreau but I found it strangely hollow. A bit short as well.
Prieure Roch Clos de Beze 2004 - A bit muddy in appearance. Ripe nose. Juicy. Rhone-like dried herbs. Leather. Raspberry and strawberry. Firm tannins but not too distracting. Good but seems prematurely aged.
Prieure Roch Clos de Vougeot 2004 - Riper on the nose than the Clos de Beze. There's some earthiness that follows. More focused and lively. Raspberry and gunpowder. Strong tanins. Needs time but very good.
Ara Resolute Pinot Noir 2007 - From New Zealand. Cherry, some earthiness. Good varietal character and easy to drink. Very nice but pricey for New Zealand Pinot. P 2160.00 at Straits Wine.
