Carmenere. Rustic nightmare?

Most of us are familiar with some Carmenere from Chile but Chris K has some thoughts on this grape relating to Bordeaux.

Thanks, Bob, for posting that very interesting report. As usual, Chris distinguishes himself with his wine writing. Interesting discussion too on Chris' site where are own Hoke makes an excellent contribution, also as usual.

It seems as if Carmenère may be poised to make a come-back as a blending resource in Bordeaux in spite of Pontarllier's negative views.

I've always been underwhelmed by the grape in its Chilean guise but that goes for nearly all grapes in Chilean guise.

BTW there seems to be no consensus on how this grape is pronounced and spelled in French. I have seen both "Carménère" and Carmenère" which affects the pronunciation. The Chileans dispense with the accents.
