NWR: Tornado around Dexter, MI

by JC (NC) » Thu Mar 15, 2012 10:17 pm

Glanced briefly at weather channel and saw that some tornadoes touched down near Dexter, MI and in Monroe County, MI. Hope there was no damage to lodge and cabins used at Mo''Cool. It was in the 80's today in North Carolina.

I'm in Michigan today. No problem here in Detroit, but there is lots of damage around Dexter. An excerpt from the Detroit paper is pasted below. The good news is that there are no reported fatalities.

The worst hit areas were Carriage Hills and Huron Farms neighborhoods of Dexter, with more than 100 homes registering serious damage and 13 homes completely destroyed.
Dexter-Pinckney Road remains closed Friday to through traffic from Island Lake Road to North Territorial just north of the Dexter village limits.
Homes along the road were damaged and emergency personnel are only letting residents drive the stretch of road to get to their homes, officials said.

I just received an email from Joel saying that the tornado did not hit where the MoCool picnic is held, but did do some damage in the village proper and surrounding areas. I just saw some of the damage on The Weather Channel. As tornadoes often do,it leveled one house and spared the ones next to it. Thank goodness no one was critically injured in this one; it was a doozy!
