WTN: Toogood Malbec Port

by John Treder » Fri Mar 09, 2012 12:29 am

Sad. I don't know who gave me this; I'm sure I didn't buy it.
Tastes like IHOP blackberry syrup. (If they make it; if not, you get the idea, I hope!)
The label says, "Toogood Estate, Magnificent, Malbec Port, Paul Toogood, El Dorado" plus the fine print.
The back label contains the notice, "FOR SALE IN CALIFORNIA ONLY", plus contact information and the legal stuff.

you probably know that the 'for sale in ca only' means that there is something about the label that can't get federal label approval. any idea from looking what that might be?

I would hope the word Port but I suspect that is not correct.

Maybe calling it "Magnificent" was construed as misleading..

The rest of the label looked perfectly ordinary to me, both front and back, and I'm one of those geeks that reads the union local number on a "union made" label. The only possibility that I can see is the word "PORT" on the label.

Does the label have % alcohol? If not, this may be the reason why it is for in-state only (I've seen this with some small NYS wineries which sell mainly at the gate).

Sounds like they should rename it to "Toogoodtobetrue".

Fortunately, it wasn't something I bought. Had it been, I'd probably be trying to find something good about it. As it is, I'm worrying whether it will damage the sewer system.
