Any Opinions about Cameron Hughes Wines?

by Jim Grow » Sat Mar 03, 2012 10:57 am

I have tried a few of the wines from Cameron Hughes , mostly Cal. Cabs.,and am generally pleased with the QPR, especially with the Lot 247. Of course no one knows exactly which producer the wine came from other than say "Chalk Hill" the area not the winery, but what is in the bottle is what matters and they taste typical of what is expected. Anyone else have an opinion about this guy and his wine?

I've only had the 2006 Cameron Hughes Syrah Lot 177, which according to my notes was "wine like and not really worth it even for the price".

Jim,
The local Costco stocks the Cameron Hughes. I have tried some, mostly because the are priced reasonably (sub $20). They can be decent wines, but seldom do they wow me...almost QPRs but not quite. My understanding is, it is excess inventory bought from wineries and sold under the Cameron Hughes label.
