2010 Domaine des Fees CDR
50% Grenache/50% Syrah.
QPR here with this full bodied CDR. Pure and silky with, as RP noted below, black cherry and licorice flavors and no oak treatment. Very lush and shows the dark side of berries with hints of semi sweet chocolate and espresso emerging as the wine opens. Let this decant for a few hours at this early stage. Very nice. 15% Alc/vol. $15
Robert Parker:
“The newest cuvee is from a single estate, located just to the west of Lirac, called Domaine des Fees. Bottled separately, there are 1,000 cases for the US market and this blend of equal parts Grenache and Syrah, aged completely in concrete tanks, is stunning. Gorgeous notes of roasted meats, Provencal herbs, sweet black cherry liqueur, and licorice as well as spice jump from the glass of this dense, ruby/purple-tinged wine. Fresh, full-bodied and juicy, with a velvety texture, it is a beauty that would be best drunk over the next 3-4 years. Think of it as a Chateauneuf du Pape wearing a Cotes du Rhone mask. "

2010 Domaine Paul Autard CDR
Another QPR here. A little brighter than the Fees with good concentration. This blend of Grenache, Syrah, Mouvèdre, and Cinsault really delivers. Modern in style it’s a well balanced, fruit forward CDR showing blackberry, bing cherry and berry flavors with hints of mineral, chocolate and smoke. Not as deep and lush as the Fees and was singing on day two. Probably one of the best QPR’s of the vintage, imho, that one could find in under $15 wines. 14.5% Alc/vol.
$12.
