The other day I see in the grocery the wine spec for the 2009 Bdx so in a moment of weakness I buy it. When looking throu there list of scores I notice that the 2009 Cheval Noir got a 65 which I think is the lowest on the list. So I flip to the notes to find out what could be so horrible about this wine sitting downstairs in my cellar but they don't print notes for wines less than 88 points. To get those you have to bea subscriber and get them from the web site. Oh well it's a Friday, I have the day off and left over lamb shoulder for lunch so what the Hell, time to find out if it's really that bad.
As expected its not great but it's not that bad either. Medium ruby in color and medium body with noticeable acidity that makes it a very nice wine for the lamb. Red fruit that does seem a little candied. No length as the wine dies quickly with no aftertaste. Nothing I am going to drink by itself but fine food wine for everyday fair. I had better inexpensive Bdx this month with this costing a little more at 20. Still it's no 65 pointer. If anyone has access to the WS note I would love to see why they scored it so low.
