WTN: Back to Riesling after some hard graft

by Salil » Tue Feb 28, 2012 9:36 pm

2009 Meulenhof Erdener Treppchen Riesling Spätlese * Alte Reben
From a subplot of old ungrafted vines in the Erdener Treppchen. Bought a case when this came out, and not regretting it one bit. This was fantastic on release, but after a year or so in bottle it seems to be getting even better with more aromatic complexity and depth emerging. Layers of fresh Riesling fruit ranging from ripe nectarines to classic red apple and citrus flavours, slate and bright floral accents with fantastic acidity underneath keeping it incredibly refreshing, focused and drinkable. Absolutely stellar.

Hi Salil -

Thank you for the great note again. Haven't had the 2009 version of this wine, but the 2008 was really nice.
