Still disappointing. Still parchy without much midpalate fruit. Still no THERE there. Meant to taste again next day but didn't get back to it for three days. By then, prune-y.

"Still" refers to similar reports discussed in this thread some time ago.

We just had this last week. Here's my CT note. A different beast from what you had. This is one I purchased from WineBid. I think the one marginal bottle I had was from a purchase you and I, Jenise, made one day from The Wine Merchant in Newport.

  • 1999 Château Léoville Barton - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien (2/17/2012)

It's been about 3 years since I last tasted this wine, and it is progressing nicely into middle age. Still has red fruit and good acidity and tannic structure, but the secondary flavors and aromas of cedar, leather, peppery (on the nose too), other spices. Some dark fruit flavors are coming out of the background. Delicious stuff. At Houston's for lunch with burgers. (93 pts.)

Jim, mine came from both Wine Commune and Overstreets and stupidly, I didn't mark the bottles to know which were which. That said, I bought about the same number from both places, so on average every other bottle should be a good one. Hasn't worked out like that! Maybe I drank the best bottles early? I'll never know!
