WTN: 2009 Rhys Pinot Noir Family Farm Vineyard

by David M. Bueker » Thu Feb 09, 2012 8:49 am

2009 Rhys Pinot Noir Family Farm Vineyard - USA, California, San Francisco Bay, San Mateo County (2/8/2012)
Floral, cherry, berry and light herbal elements on the nose. It's more than a bit hard/unyielding on the palate, but shows a depth of fruit through to the finish that I have confidence in laying my remaining bottles down for a few years to shed a bit of that tough shell.

David,
I had a chance to taste this wine recently at Rhys and felt much the same. Hard now, better later.
The Skyline Vnyd. Pinot, on the other hand, is outrageously good now and has plenty of future, as well. IMO, the best Pinot made in the new world - and that seems to be the case since 2008.
Best, Jim

I have not yet gotten up the courage to open any of my Skyline bottles (Pinot or Syrah).

David; I was with Jim tasting all these things. I am in complete awe of what those guys are doing, and I'm convinced the wines will age brilliantly for a long, long time. Incredible stuff.
I don't know just how I'm supposed to play this scene, but I ain't afraid to learn...

On CellarTracker I do. While I am no fan of points, it seems to make sense to include them there, as they contribute to a community number (with which I often do not agree, so like to have my say).

I agree, and that's why I include Rhys in the small group of California wines that I buy on an every release basis (along with Anthill Farms, Wind Gap and stuff from some guy named Steve).

When you feel the onset of courage, please call me. I'd fly a long way to taste the Skyline pinots - they are the most remarkable things.
But seriously, I applaud your patience - it will be rewarded many times over.
