WTN: 2005 Perrucci Family Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon

by Howie Hart » Thu Feb 02, 2012 12:39 pm

I received this as a gift, along with 2 other bottles, a while ago. Perrucci Family Vineyard is located in Los Gatos, CA, which is in the Santa Cruz Mountains, about halfway between San Jose and Santa Cruz. The designation of this wine is simply CA. The label indicates that it was aged in American oak barrels.
I had intentions of opening it with a New Years Eve dinner I was going to host, but had to cancel because I came down with a very bad cold. So, with balmy weather yesterday (mid 40s), two of my sons fired up the grill and we cooked some very nice rib eyes, accompanied by buttered parsley potatoes, spinach and a loaf of fresh-baked bread. The wine was an excellent match with the meal. Deep color with a garnet hue, and blackberry notes in the aroma. Good balance of acid and tannin with just hints of oak. The 14.4% abv was not overwhelming and the wine had a full, medium-long finish. My sons were impressed and we all enjoyed it very much.
Chico - Hey! This Bottle is empty!
Groucho - That's because it's dry Champagne.
