BobThompson??

by TomHill » Tue Jan 24, 2012 11:11 am

Not seen anything by or about BobThompson for quite some time.
But no obit out there. Should be in his upper-70's.
I once stopped by & visited him at his home in StHelena in the mid-'70's. We talked for several hours. Great guy.
Anybody have the inside skinny on how Bob's doing??

Could be wrong, Tom, but I thought I remember reading that he'd died a few years back.
I don't know just how I'm supposed to play this scene, but I ain't afraid to learn...

Steve,
I think I would have remembered that if it were. My memory's not that shot!!!

Nothing out there on the InterNet indicates a death. He was nominated last Aug (2011) for the Vintner's Hall of Fame.

Hmmmmm...maybe it's your memory that's shot, Steve!!! :-)

Don't even want to get involved in Steve Edmunds' situation regarding memory and such...but I looked around a bit, and neither Wikipedia nor Bob's Facebook page indicates that Bob is no longer with us. They're usually pretty good at noticing and reporting any changes in lifestyle (like say, between breathing and not-breathing.)

I will say, however, that whatever Bob's current state, I consider him one of the all-time old-time gentlemen of the wine world, west coast addition. The times I've met him, and the times I've worked with him (in competitions), and in all his writings, he has conducted himself as a gracious, well-spoken, gentle, friendly, amiable gentleman, as well as a damned good commentator on wine.

And if he's still around, which I think he is, so much the better to say such things when the person is here rather than gone.
