...the great wine-grower/maker of the Valpolicella, passed away yesterday in Negrar at the age of 84.

May he rest in peace...there's a generation of spectacular winemakers that are swiftly vanishing from the Earth.

Maybe my little rant belongs elsewhere, but isn't it in bad taste to put his obituary on the Purple Pages? I know his wines are expensive, but I think people deserve to read the obit for free.

Sad news. I raise my glass in honour of a great man that I am happy to once to have met.
May his nephew (I think) continue Bepi's work with success. Here is a picture I took of him and his family when they were sorting cherries in May 2007

Very sorry to hear of Bepi's passing; R.I.P. to a real icon of Italian wine. His 1981 Bandito still stands as one of the absolute greatest wines that I have ever had, and his Valpolicella Ca del Merlo transcended the category.
