Sharper Image Wine Chiller - keep or return?

by Jon Peterson » Sat Jan 14, 2012 5:34 pm

I was given a gift of The Sharper Image Wine Chiller (with a gift receipt!). The Wine Chiller maintains a data base of the what someone thinks is the proper serving temperatures of dozens of wines, 70 I think. I aminclined to return it to Macy's and get something else (I think it's about $100). Serving temps for wine are important and I pay attention to serving temperatures for red and white wines but not by specific grape type; I'll serve a Cab Sau. at the same temp as a Merlot, as a Tempranillo. Does anyone really get so specific as to change serving temps based on grapes in the wine?

No. I would take it back as a social justice action: Deny the company that markets these things the profit that it so earnestly desires to take from the uninformed.

Everybody has their own preferences for wine temperatures, so why pay Macy's or anybody else to tell you what theirs are. The best temperatures are what you like.

I do empathize with guys who say they like certain wines at certain temperature as I'm kind of a nut on that issue, but the temps I like often aren't the temps other people like, as I've found time and again when friends demand I give white wines more time in the fridge.

Return it! I got one last year (as a gift) and did just that. It's useless.

Consider it returned and thanks for your opinions.
