12,5% abv. Sumoll is an authochthonous Catalan variety grown now by only a few wineries; this wine is aged in chestnut barrels. When I last tasted this about a year ago it seemed a bit on the austere side with bright red fruit and cherry dominant; now it seems to have gained body and it smells rather of Calvados minus the strong alcohol. Dry, tangy, light bodied but intense palate with delightfully savoury and strong tannins; wonderfully grippy, interminable aftertaste. Lovely.
