WTN: Less Wine but Better Wine

by Jim Grow » Fri Jan 06, 2012 4:11 pm

After a recent episode of chest pain, I went thru the usual steps...chest pain/ekg/stress test/catherization in that order. No stent needed (some blockage however) but since I am now on some meds to control this condition, I am drinking only 1/2 bottle of wine per day instead of my normal 750 ml. I'm learning how to "sip". With all that in mind, I have decided that the 1/2 bottle should be a good or excellent one and that I would take my meds on an empty stomach in the early AM to avoid a dinner problem with my wine that evening. Sooo, I started this new system with the 2009 Rockledge Reserve Napa Cabernet a few days ago. It was very purple/black and full of wild cherry nose and flavors but quite young (duh!) and moderately tannic. The next day in decanter for a few hours it was much more enjoyable with tannins more resolved. I need to aquire more half bottles, especially some with Vino-Seal glass corks ( I love them) to simplify resealing. We shall see if I can maintain this moderation!
