WTN: Lallier Grande Reserve Champagne NV

by Bruce Hayes » Sun Jan 01, 2012 10:36 am

A blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

Very frothy mousse.

Deep yellow in the glass.

Just a few streams of very fine bubbles.

Apple, toast on the nose.

Medium weight, green apple, lemon, lime, very bitter citrus rind, crisp, cleansing, good acidity, light toast, nutty.

Mouthwatering, bitter citrus rind on the finish.

Started out rather sharp, bitter and simple but, with time and food, it picked up some complexity.

Purchased at $47.95 (Canadian).

Thank you. I had thought it was just me, but this was a rather unsatisfying bottle. I am glad it was my only one but regret that I picked it for our NYE meal.

i too had this a couple of days ago. different experience. we really liked it. fresh and clean and flavorful. maybe a different batch? much cheaper here - low $30's. wish i had more. everyone enjoyed the Monmarthe last night too.

Could be a batch variation. I thought something was wrong as soon as I opened the bottle and it smelled sharp and bitter. It certainly didn't match the reviews (which were closer to your experience) I relied on to make the purchase.
