2010 J. J. Prum Graacher Himmelreich Riesling Spatlese
As usual, this Prum is elegant, but surprisingly not covered in its normal Prum funk of lees and sulfur. The fruit is pure, and the acidity is balanced and integrated. This is one of the more drinkable young Prums I have ever had, though I see no meaningful qualitative difference from other fine Prum years (i.e. all of them).

Have you had the 04? We opened one a few weeks ago and were surprised by it. From 04, at least based on my understanding of the vintage in other parts of Europe, I expected a leaner wine but we found the Prum on the fatter/sweeter side. Maybe that's typical of GH's?--it's not a wine I recall having before.

The question is, as always, compared to what? It certainly wouldn't/shouldn't have been fatter and sweeter than the 03, 05, 06 or 07 of the same wine. But, it would be fatter and sweeter than a Muscadet from any of those years!

That said, I've always found GH to be somewhat flowery floral and forward (if not necessarily fat) compared to the deeper GD and then if we're talking Prum compared to the more coiled and deeper WS.

Jenise,

I find that well stored 2004s are still rather shut down, thus all that shows is the sweetness.

That would line up, I think, with the bottle we had. I just don't drink enough riesling to recognize dormancy.
