2007 Merry Edwards Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir
(I just ordered some 2009 Pinots from Merry Edwards and decided I should sample the 2007.)
From classic Californian and Burgundian clones. 14.2% alcohol. Leggy on the glass. Dark purple color; opaque. Tart, somewhat acidic, blackberry/boysenberry flavor. Slight savory or underbrush element but fruits predominate. Mellows with aeration. Pleasing aftertaste. i would ascribe 90 or 91 points.
(Oops, I sent this before completing.)
2009 Lioco Chardonnay Carneros, Ca 13.4% alcohol. Leaves legs on the side of the glass. Clarity and transparency in the glass. Exhibits a purity and a crispness with a finishing tang. Closer to lemon than to pear or apple. Would match well with some fish dishes. I had with baked chicken tenders in a cheesy asparagus sauce with breadcrumbs. Good complement to the chicken and asparagus. Not my favorite Lioco Chardonnay to date but well made.
2005 Domaine Savoye sur Cote du Puy Morgon Vielles Vignes Beaujolais Cru, France. 12.5% alcohol by volume. Imported by The Country Vintner , Oilville, VA.
Deep purple color; opaque. I seem to get indistinct berry scents and a little hint of cinnamon on the nose. Slightly tart with silky tannins and a lingering freshness on the palate. Quite smooth. Pleasurable now but probably will start to fade soon. Would rate as outstanding in its category of Beaujolais Cru.
