Noel recently posted some positive thoughts on the `09 vintage of the 2009 Palacios Remondo La Vendimia (Rioja) so I thought I would crack my second bottle! I was very impressed when I initially tasted one last November, served with some roast lamb of course. The producer is well written up in the new Rioja book.
WTN: `09 Palacios Remondo La Vendimia, Rioja.
50-50 blend of Tempranillo and Garnacha, from the Rioja Baga district. Nice looking cherry red in the glass, ripe fruit tones on the nose....cherry and blackcurrant with hints of spice. Initial entry tells me medium weight, curranty, cherry with some delicious raspberry. Maybe more of a modern style but still very good and will be great on the Xmas table! $18 Cdn is a great price and I see plenty on the shelf downtown.
