2001 Selbach-Oster Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese (Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer)
The 2001 Selbach-Oster Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese is beginning to come into an early drinking window. While still full of youthful fruit, the wine also now shows a bit of creaminess to accent the focused back end acidity. A touch of smoke, and perhaps a touch of petrol flash by once in a while, but are only bit players to the citrus & tree fruit and mineral backbone of the wine. This is a lovely wine to drink on its own, and also a fantastic companion to aromatically spicy (but not too hot!) food.

2007 Rhys Alesia Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast (USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast)
Red fruit, a bit of spice and a long, fruity finish. Nice, uncomplicated drinking - a good thing for a Monday night.

hmm, I seem to be repeating myself tonight (see this thread - viewtopic.php?f=3&t=42263)- but the other bottle of german wine from my cellar I opened Saturday night was the 01 S-O Zelt Sonn Auslese! Delicious too although more subtle than the M-C (well, that's no surprise).
