WTN: In Obscurity

Friends brought over a bottle of 2006 Obscurity Cellars Carneros Pinot Noir the other night. The winery is located in the town of Fair Play in California's Eldorado County. And though I did not find it to have the typical cherry-cola Carneros character, I liked it: ripe (but not overripe) cherry fruit that with an attractive, unfiltered rusticity and the beginnings of secondary development. Bright even though overall the acidity is resolved at a level appropriate for a five year old Cal pinot. Should evolve well from here. Showed very well with a pre-dinner plate of duck and truffle pate.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov

Not a winery I'd heard of before, but it was brought to my friend by a recent visitor who lives nearby in the town of Cool (I envy their address), and judging by this and what else he brought along, seems to have a good handle on some of the more off-the-radar little boutique operations. If I were ever to go wine-tasting down there again, I'd seek out Ken for advice.
