WTN: 2009 Domaine Auguste Clape Cornas

by Rainer from CH » Sun Dec 04, 2011 11:45 am

2009 Domaine Auguste Clape Cornas
Deep purple-black. Highly concentrated, drug-like scent of dark fruits (black currant like in Rochelt's high-end brandy 'Schwarze Ribisel'), elder flowers, thyme, raw meat, blood, iron and wet rock.
Big, fleshy on the palate. Tons of fruit and tannins. Incredibly refreshing. Very long on the finish. No sense of heaviness at all - the incredible lightness of being. (In this sense it is similar to the awesome 2007 Domaine de Ferrand Chateauneuf du Pape.)
Great, authentic Syrah. Maybe the best wine ever made by this domaine. - My personal rating: 95++/100.

Cheers,
Rainer

Sounds great. Though I'm not regretting my decision to pass on offers for this given that the price is now nearing Chave territory.

In Switzerland prices for Clape's Cornas (about CHF 80) are still much more sympathetic than prices for J.L.Chave Hermitage (CHF 250 and more).

I tasted this a week ago in Pierre Clape's presence and fully endorse Rainer's TN. It is a great wine in the making :D .
