WTN: Three O'er Friday..(short/boring)

by TomHill » Sat Dec 03, 2011 7:54 pm

Tried these three on Friday:
1. Donkey&Goat GrenacheNoir ElDorado (U; 14.2%; www.DonkeyAndGoat.com) 2010: Med.dark color; rather earthy/dusty BeaujGC-like some mineral/earthy lush/Gamay/fruity/black cherry very attractive nose; fairly tart/earthy.dusty bright/black cherry/Gamay/fruity light oak some ElDorado/mushroomy/truffle bright flavor w/ light tannins; long fairly earthy/dusty/Kansas root cellar black cherry/Gamay rather BeaujGC-like finish w/ light tannins; lots og BeaujGC like in character but more bright fruitiness; similiar to SteveEdmunds Gamay but not as much fruit; pretty/drinkable wine. $27.00

2. Bedrock CuveeKaratas SonomaCnty WW (60% 120 yr old Semillon/MonteRosso, 40% sauvMusque/KickRanch; 14.4%; 10 brls; www.BedrockWineCo.com) 2010: Med.gold color; strong classic/Semillon/waxy/figgy light fragrant Muscat-like/herbal quite perfumed light smoky/pencilly/oak lovely nose; fairly tart very lush/rich waxy/figgy/Semillon slight herbal/green olive ripe/floral/perfumed light smoky/oak flavor; very long/lingering waxy/Semillon/figgy/green olive light perfumed/floral/Muscat-like light smoky/oak finish; lots of lovely classic Semillo aromatics and lots of richness/lushness (alcohol?) but acidity & balance that should take it out 10 yrs or more; rather rich/lush w/o straying into oafish terrritory. $21.00
________________
3. Radio-Coteau Timbervine Syrah RRV (15.2%; 375 cs; U/U) 2006: Very dark color; strong blackberry/boysenberry/Syrah some pencilly/oak light peppery/spicy slight complex nose; soft ripe/blackberry/Syrah/boysenberry strong pencilly/oak/toasty flavor w/ light/smooth tannins; med.long strong blackberry/boysenberry/Syrah strong pencilly/oak finish w/ light tannins; probably as good as it's gonna get; smooth tannins but not much complexity or evolution; some like an older Novy or Dehlinger Syrah; an attractive/mature Syrah but just that.

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. I was mightly impressed by the Bedrock Karatas. The SauvMusque gives it an almost exotic/Muscat-like character that you don't get very often in straight Semillon. Yet the Semillon character showed thru loud & clear. This is how thed make Semillon/SauvBlanc in Bdx if'n they knew how.

Another contrast with Steve E's Gamay is the pricing: at $10 more than I can get Bone Jolly for here in flyover country, the wine you describe is competing with Foillard and Thevenet, which is heady company indeed.

I agree completely about Sauv. musque, which is the clone that attracted us to Sauv. Blanc back when Merry Edwards was using it at Matanzas Creek.
