Notes for the two wines I brought to the International Wine and Food Society traditional year end BYOB lunch at La Girolle.
Domaine des Terres Dorees (Jean-Paul Brun) Morgon 2009 - Lots of fruit on the palate but rather dry and savory. Strawberry, and smoked meat. Milk chocolate silkiness although it does firm up on the finish. A beefy, serious Beaujolais. I enjoyed it a lot and can certainly be drunk with pleasure now but I am told aging will be rewarded. Excellent and certainly worthy of re-purchase.
Jean Claude Lapalu Cuvee des Fous Brouilly 2009 - Very dark purple. Juicy. Cherries, blueberries, fruit syrup and berry confit. Coffee and cocoa powder. Soft and sweet and absolutely delicious!OK, so maybe it's not a profound, serious wine but it is so well-crafted and enchanting and a real pleasure to drink. Immediately accessible. Not sure how it will age but why wait? Outstanding and a genuine surprise and delight.
