WTN: 2002 Castello di Lispida Amphora Bianco

This is about as much of a love-it-or-hate-it wine as there is out there.

2002 Castello di Lispida Amphora Bianco IGT Veneto
100% Friulano; an unsulfured orange wine aged in amphorae a la Gravner. Brownish orange color. Herbal/evergreen nose. Full-bodied, bone dry, well balanced, with good underlying acidity. Quite mineral, moderately oxidative, with smooth tannins; and orange, pumpkin, malt, caramel, cocoa, and cinnamon notes. Hoppy/leesy finish. Maybe the most beer-like wine that I have ever had. Excellent in my opinion, but definitely not everyone's cup of tea.
Day 2: Much more cidery than beer-like now. Leaner, and starting to tire on the palate, although the nose is still quite interesting. I would recommend opening this wine for an occasion where the bottle will be consumed in its entirety.

As a side note, this bottle was imported by Vias Imports, who no longer works with Lispida. I am not sure if they are currently being imported by anyone else in the US.
