WTN: 2010 Tablas Creek Picpoul Blanc

by Shaji M » Sun Nov 27, 2011 9:54 pm

100% Picpoul Blanc. Nose reminiscent of mixed fruit jams (peach, pear, mango) and white flowers. Sharp acidity on entry, viscous, short finish with a pleasant bitter after-taste. Good match for Thai style salmon curry.Interesting wine.

Hi Shaji -

Thank you for the very interesting note. This sounds quite a bit different than Picpoul de Pinet in terms of weight and texture, even though it is the same grape.

Andrew,
I think Picpoul Blanc and Picpoul de Pinet are one and the same grape. The latter term is used in Languedoc. Looking at the Tablas Creek website, I noticed that their tasting note mentioned "white flowers" and I am going to take it as a sign of my evolution that every once in a while my notes are not far off from the winemakers. 8) .
