2010 Immich-Batterieberg Riesling C.A.I. - Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer (11/27/2011)
Well if this doesn't wake you up then head for the doctor - you might be dead! It's sharp to the point of drawing blood when cold, but as it warms some citrus (lemon/lime - the un-Riesling!) fruit emerges and the acid tames just enough to be sustainably drinkable. This won't win points for friendliness, but if the food is a bit rich/oily then this wine is just the ticket. It cuts through the food as if it's made of Valyrian steel.

I haven't had a lot of 2010 German riesling but the basic Steinmetz Mosel riesling last night was not at all severe to my tastes. It was zippy yet perfectly party friendly (also in the sense that warming up to room temperature was just fine for the structure).

Yeah, it's sharp, though I did like it a fair bit - but damn, it REALLY needs food.

I enjoyed it - with the food. Not much fun on its own.

David -

Thank you for the note. I tried this wine last month (at an in-store tasting, without the benefit of food), and found it to be quite well balanced. Then again, my level of acid tolerance is probably higher than most people's.

I also liked both the 2010 Escheburg and Ellergrub quite a bit.
