WTN: 09 Rebholz Ganz Horn GG

2009 Rebholz Siebeldingen ‚Ganz Horn‘ Im Sonnenschein Riesling GG –Pfalz, Germany 13% alc.

I’ve tasted a lot of 2009s over the last year that were going through a shut-down phase. The Ganz Horn seems also to be afflicted. Though with air and a lot of time, it starts to blossom -Lime, tangerine, aloe, cactus paddle, honey. It really evolves in the glass and sends your mind hunting. The texture is somehow both crystalline and creamy and shows a good balance of power and detail. Very nice.

Was meaning to check into one of my 09 Rebholz GGs ... guess I'll have to let them sit for some time.

How do you find it compares to the 08, btw?

I certainly wouldn't rush opening the 2009s unless you have a couple of hours to decant. Even then, I feel that the best is yet to come. The '08 Ganz Horn is a superior wine IMO. I don't have any numbers in front of me, but it was more filagree with finer acidity when I tasted it last Summer. I haven't sensed the 2008s to have gone through the same shut-down phase in general. Perhaps the slightly lower pH has been a factor in preserving the fresh fruitiness of that vintage.
