2010 Bergdolt Weissburgunder ‚Lössriedel‘ Spätlese Trocken –Pfalz, Germany
A powerfully built Pinot Blanc. Rich and creamy with pears and white chocolate, pistachio and almond. Soft on the acidity, but I’m not really missing it here. Delicious.
2010 Bergdolt Riesling ‘Buntsandstein’ Spätlese Trocken –Pfalz, Germany
Peach and Mirabelle plums, oranges, intoxicating floral aromas. It almost seems sweet with all of the fruit. Great acidity. Very Good.
2010 Dr. Deinhard Deidesheimer Herrgottsacker Riesling Kabinett Trocken –Pfalz, Germany
Bright lime and grapefruit, apple, spearmint. Light-bodied with refreshing acidity.
2010 Von Winning Deidesheimer Grainhübel Riesling Trocken –Pfalz, Germany
A very large, very ripe Riesling. Peaches, apples, pears, cinnamon, vanilla. Almost Alsatian in style.
2010 Louis Guntrum Gewürztraminer Spätlese –Rheinhessen, Germany 10% alc.
Peach and litchee and potpurri. Rich, ripe and full-bodied. The sweetness puts a spotlight on the lack of acidity, and I guess I’d like it to be a little drier. But not bad at all.
2010 Prinz von Hessen Johannisberger Klaus Erstes Gewächs –Rheingau, Germany
Sappy peach, smoke, scorched earth. A wine of breadth. Decent acidity. Good, but not great.
2010 Weingut Hirth Riesling QbA Trocken –Württemberg, Germany
Very fine, flinty mineral, zesty lime and pear fruit, good length and acidity. Nice!
2010 Bürgerspital Würzburger Stein Innere Leiste Silvaner Kabinett Trocken –Franken, Germany
This comes from a parcel surrounding the castle on the opposite side of the Main river from the famous Stein vineyard. It produces lighter, more delicate Silvaner that is perfect for Kabinett. Just a touch sweet, it has pear and stark mineral notes. Great length. Very good.
Cheers,
Bill
