The Thanksgiving Wine Thread

So what are you opening? No need to get into the whole "how hard it is to pair wines with the meal" stuff, as we've done it all to death.

Right now I am thinking through several options:

Champagne (Laura gets to pick)
2009 Baudry Chinon Grezeaux
2002 Chevillon Nuits-St-Georges VV
2001 Jadot Gevrey Chambertin Estournelles St Jacques
2006 Alesia Syrah Fairview Ranch
2007 Gonon st Joseph

Salil is also bringing something, so I think we'll have enough.
Decisions are made by those who show up

Looks like 2004 Maysara (Willamette Valley) Pinot Noir depending on whether it gets here in time. Backup is 2002 Michel Magnien Morey St. Denis 1er Cru Les Millandes with 1996 Kurt Darting Ungsteiner Bettelhaus Rieslaner Beerenauslese for dessert.

I'm thinking of all different colors of wine:

2008 Chidaine Vouvray Le Bouchet
2010 Baudry Rosé
{Pinot Noir yet to be determined -- maybe '91 Morot Savigny}

I'm laying on:

Wine
2006 Cantina Terlan Gewürztraminer
2009 Müller-Catoir Haardter Muskateller
2008 Domaine du Vissoux Pierre-Marie Chermette Beaujolais Vieilles Vignes Cuvée Traditionnelle
2000 Royal Tokaji Wine Co. Tokaji Aszú 5 Puttonyos Red Label

Beer
2011 Brasserie Dupont Avec Les Bons Voeux
2011 Anchor Brewing Our Special Ale

A guest is already slated to bring proper Champagne (TBA) and another will be bringing a selection of reds, more than likely Pinot Noir oriented (also TBA).

I am not bringing Riesling, well maybe as an extra. I just picked up a 2001 Harlan Estate The Maiden from Horse Ridge that will be opened Thursday. :D

Riesling - not sure yet which one
Maybe a home made Steuben Rosé
My big holiday dinner will be for Christmas, as all my boys and grandchildren will be here.

No idea yet. We're having dinner with friends who are doing one baked turkey and one deep fried. There will be eight present, and though everybody likes wine we'll be the only geeks so I'm leaning toward the lower hanging fruit in my cellar. Will probably reach for a bubbly, an older WA syrah and maybe a port.

Some reds I'm excited about:
2010 Domaine de la Tournelle Poulsard Arbois L'uva Arbosiana
2010 P-U-R Beaujolais-Villages Très Vieilles Vignes
2009 Domaine du Clos du Fief (Michel Tete) Juliénas

And a beer that should be drinking beautifully rights-abouts-now, methinks:
Almanac Summer 2010 Ale with Blackberries

I'm tempted to check in on the 2010 Deschutes Mirror Mirror, but more time may benefit it so much that I'll consider subbing a bubbly, maybe something from Monmarthe or J. Lassalle. Will see.

Thanksgiving will be with my mother-in-law's side, who hardly drink at all, so I'm just taking a nice little Spanish red, nothing of note.

Hi David,

These two wines:

2001 Nackenheim Rothenberg, riesling auslese, Gunderloch (late 60th birthday wine)
2006 Clos Pepe Estate Santa Rita Hills pinot noir

Brother Bob: gewurztraminer

Brother James?

Should be a good line up for Thanksgiving dinner.

I'm crashing David and Salil's!
If I leave now (9:30 PM Tuesday night) I might make it to Connecticut from DC! Thanksgiving traffic out of DC is horrendous. Nobody stays here for Thanksgiving!

Which is why I'll be here with my Bone Jolly and some Willm Pinot Gris and Riesling as well as Willm Cremant, Killa Cava, and some sparkling Rose. A little port with pie may be called for and some Glenrothes 1994 may top off the evening (or morning). What else gets opened is anyone's guess.

I'm going to spend Thanksgiving with my oldest nephew's wife's father, whom I've never met. (Jim and Lesley will be there, too!) I'm taking a Californicated selection - '08 Field Stone Chardonnay (Alexander Valley), '09 David Coffaro Sauvignon Blanc (Dry Creek Valley), '04 Wellington Cabernet Sauvignon (Sonoma Valley) and '07 Dry Creek Vineyards Somers Vineyard Zin. I also have no idea what will be on the menu (probably Big Bird, but who knows?), so I picked wines that are likely to be enjoyable with more or less whatever comes along.

It'll be a pleasant drive up 101, though it is supposed to rain tomorrow. Redwoods in the rain - a chance for some good photos if I'm lucky.

Of course not Kelly, but a lot of people flee DC during the Holidays. One of the things I am thankful for is not having to fight traffic on I-95 to Philly or the PA turnpike to the 'Burgh at the Holidays.
