1) 2009 Palacios Remondo Rioja La Vendimia.

2) 2009 Domaine Lefief Bourgueil. A new arrival downtown and could be of interest for this months Wine Focus. Under $20, wow.

So a bit of a novice here. Can you tell me some more about these wines? I see one's a Rioja... so I'm guessing a Tempranillo. The other I'm not familiar with. Are you planning on having them with dinner? And if so, what's on the menu?

Drew Hall's post about bacon sorry, I mean wine, sounds good. If I can find his 2008 Sonoma Coast PN by W. H. Smith Wines, that's what I'll open. Last weekend was Ch. Leoville Barton, Palmer and Rausan-Segla and a few others so I think I'll go easy.

Welcome Ed. The Rioja I am planning to have with lamb shanks. The Bourgueil, I am not sure as yet! I purchased cos of this months Wine Focus here...Cab Franc.
I help out at a great winestore downtown so am always getting to taste new wines as they arrive in town.

Not sure re tonight (Betsy hasn't told me what menu is), but tomorrow night going to a benefit dinner/concert at a local church. There's a silent auction, and I've donated a "wines for a dinner party" lot:
Sparkling : NV Bernard Bremont Rose Champagne
White: 2007 Christian Moreau "les Clos" Chablis Grand Cru
Red:1979 Ch. du Tertre (Margaux)
Dessert: 2005 Baumard "le Paon" Coteaux du Layon.

So I thought I'd take along another set of the same for the dinner, and offer tastes to some of the most likely bidders to get the $$$ up,
I'm also carrying a bottle of the 93 Pajzos Esszencia, for the musicians after concert (theme is Hungary, doing Bartok etc).

There's lots of new stuff in the cellar. I may open a Cowan Cellars pinot noir. On the other hand there's tons of other stuff, and I think Laura wants some Champagne, and I will not turn down tht idea.

2nd night of a 2008 Te Mata Cape Crest SB (an oak influenced version) plus maybe a glass of 2002 Unison Selection (Merlot/CS/Syrah blend) that the brains of the operation insisted on.

I am going down to Ben's Chili Bowl tonight for some half smokes, a DC delicacy. Tomorrow may be a white wine and Sunday will be a roast so probably some Bordeaux.

Thumbs up to Mssrs. Erickson and Roscoe. Well played each.

I think I'll be on the beer tonight (Paulaner Wies'n or Sly Fox Pikeland Pils).

Tomorrow it'll be 2007 Peay Estate Pinot Noir, I'd hazard.

My contributions to a Burgundy-themed dinner tomorrow night include:
1993 Jadot Beaune Clos des Ursules
1993 Mongeard-Mugneret Grands Echezeaux
1993 Gouges Nuits Saint George "Les St. Georges"
Not sure what others are bringing. I expect the Gouges to be hard as a rock, so I'll (double) decant it early in the day.

Last night (Friday) we popped an '08 The Spanish Quarter Cabernet Sauvignon-Tempranillo ($8.52 U.S. after discount). It went very well with macaroni (penne) and cheese (Spanish Manchego), and spinach. Yum.

Tonight we are going to pop a Cab Franc with tenderloin steak, baby Yukon golds, and salad.
