WTN: 2009 Domaine Bernard Baudry Chinon La Croix Boissée

by Matthew Latuchie » Fri Nov 18, 2011 1:02 am

Opened one of these today at the shop. Very, very young with dense red fruit on the palate with pepper tones, damp earth, dried tobacco and florals emerging with air. Its red fruit core is dense and tightly would but with air became more elegant displaying dried red florals, nicely spiced red fruit and a light mushroomy/earthy undertone. This is years away from becoming the showstopper it has the potential to be (Yule and I joked that this seems about 25 years away from maturity, so make sure to decant any bottles being opened soon).

cheers!

Terrific Matthew. Did you know we are studying Cab Franc over on Wine Focus this month?

I think that this is Baudry's top cuvée so it is not surprising that it needs a lot more time to show its stuff. There is also La Croix Boissée white made in small quantities from Chenin and seeing some wood; delicious.

My buddy brought back a handful of the La Croix Boissee blanc from his trip to the Loire earlier this year. It was a great bottle, but obviously young. Wondering if Baudry considers the Franc de Pied to be his top cuvee over this one.....

I would actually doubt it, as the franc de pied is and will (whenever he can produce it) very young vines.

So are you guys selling Louis/Dressner wines now?

I was in the store two weeks ago and didn't see any, though of course I enjoy Weygandt's own imports from the Loire like Plouzeau, Amirault and P&N Reverdy's Sancerres, not to mention all the wonderful Vissoux's. But if you did carry any, that would only heighten the appeal further.

Nope, still selling mostly 95% Peter's stuff. Doesn't mean that those of us working there only drink his stuff. If you let one of us know you're a part of this forum, we'll open up the wines we bring in from our personal stashes. This particular Baudry was brought in by Tim.

That's a dangerous offer to make... one I'm sure to take you up on! I always enjoy shopping there, but it sounds like a great place to work, too. Thanks.
