Last Sunday I spent some time at Brussels Salon of La Revue du Vin de France. I was glad that there were two of the best Touraine producers present and I tasted their whole ranges on show except Blot’s sweeties (I posted my TNs on the reds in the Cabernet franc WF and I will deal with other wines on show separately).
Here are the whites -
Domaine de la Taille aux Loups, Jacky Blot, Montlouis-sur-Loire
Here was a brilliant range of chenin derived dry whites. They were bone dry (2g/l RS max. according to Blot), brightly focussed and very mineral. I would be happy to have any of these on my table right now but I think that they would repay some keeping, particularly the last.
Triple Zéro NV(€12)confirmed itself as one of my favourite bubblies from outside Champagne and, indeed, it was decidedly superior to a Joseph Perrier NV Champagne which I had just previously sipped as a palate cleanser. The nose was biscuit and slightly creamy and the palate was crisp, fruity, mineral and quite full with a slight tenderness which surprised with zero dosage; 16/20+++.
Vouvray Bretonnière 2010(€12) opened up aromatically with swirling and contributed pineapple hints to the crisp acidity and minerality; 15.5/20+++.
Montlouis Rémus 2010 (€12) was similar with less pineapple and with more body and depth; 16/20.
Montlouis Clos Michet 2009 was less exuberant aromatically but more generous in body with complex fruit including lovely quince notes and lively mouth-watering acidity; 16/20+++.
Montlouis Rémus Plus 2009 represented a further notch up in subtlety, depth and backbone; 16.5/20++.
