Help! - Trying to locate wine.

by Jason X » Sun Nov 13, 2011 4:31 am

I was on holiday in France, near Dinan. I bought a few bottles of wine from a local shop. It was a Grand Vin De Bordeaux, Medoc 2009. For 6 euro's it was a wonderful wine and I cannot find it to buy on any website so far. Can anyone help?

Jason,

You are missing a critcal bit of information - the actual name of the wine. The info you have "Grand Vin De Bordeaux, Medoc 2009" covers a wide range of wines made in 2009 from the Medoc which is a section of the Bordeaux region of France. Fine a good local wine shop & go through (or ask about) their Bordeaux selections, and you are likely to find a few from that area - it's big, and there are a lot of wines from there. Haut-Medoc is a separate, but very similar in style, section of Bordeaux. You could also try some wines labeled Bordeaux Superieur, which are more likely to be in the price range you are seeking.

Hope this helps!

As David says....

There are around 1500 vineyards in the Medoc. Grand Vin De Bordeaux means nothing -- it's like the word Reserve on a California wine, so the question is like asking for help finding a particular California Reserve without knowing the brand name.

However -- unlike California, the wines from Medoc all share certain similarities in that they use the same grape varieties (albeit in different proportions) so any 2009 Medoc wine will be in the same ball-park as the one you had, although not identical.

Peter, Jason's in the UK like yourself, where he should have quite a few good options around.
