Recent TN of Vieux Telegraphe, Chateauneuf-du-Pap 2007?

by Eli R » Sat Nov 12, 2011 6:15 pm

Hi,

Domaine du Vieux Telegraphe, Chateauneuf-du-Pape, La Crau, Rhone, 2007.
I am looking for recent TN of this wine. Has anyone thought it has gone into its dormant phase?

Thanks,

Eli

Had one about a month ago, Eli. It rewarded a few hours in the decanter but no, it's not shut down. It's showing quite well in fact, a lot better than a bit over a year ago where all we got was alcohol.

Jenise,

Thank you for the quick response.
I am hosting a 2007 "horizontal" tasting and this is the only wine I have not tasted recently and I had some doubts.
Do you recommend decanting for two hours?

Eli, at least an hour, though a lot depends on your tasting format. If tasters are going to have the luxury of having the glasses in front of them all night, it would be fun to take the journey with the wine. If the time spent with each is briefer, however, then perhaps you want it showing it's best right out of the gate. If the latter, then decant 2-4 hours earlier (I know we allowed somewhere in that neighborhood ourselves) and when your sip-testing seems to indicate that the wine has transformed adequately, put it back in the bottle and slap the cork on until service.
