A day late but never inappropriate. Saw some comments about Vietnam service under Covert's Thanksgiving wine discussion. Fayetteville, NC (once disparagingly labeled as Fayettenam) went all out to honor veterans this month--especially the Vietnam vets who didn't receive much of a welcome home in the late 60's or early 70's. We had a ten-day celebration with a film festival, a field of flags, each one dedicated to a particular veteran, a parade this morning, a half-size replica of the Vietman Memorial Wall on display in a downtown park, and a host of other events. I had other obligations so didn't attend the parade but Im going downtown later this afternoon to look up three names on the wall replica (the brother of a church member, and two helicopter pilots--one I knew in Germany before he went to Vietnam and the other had an identical twin who married a friend of mine.) I didn't dedicate a flag this year but a couple years ago I dedicated flags to a corporal killed by a sniper in Iraq and my father and two of his brothers who all served in World War II (and came home uninjured thankfully.) I later learned that my father's youngest brother also served in World War II--I thought he was too young to have served--so if I dedicate flags again I will have to add Uncle Bob.
Anyway, thanks to all for your service to our county.
