WTN: 2002 Jade Mountain Syrah Mt. Veeder Paras Vineyard

by Drew Hall » Fri Nov 11, 2011 7:55 am

Flavors of Blackberry, roasted meat, mushroom and loamy soil. Wonderfully earthy and not fruit driven. It displays good structure and balance and shows very much like a good Northern Rhone. My wife, who usually likes fruit driven wines, really got into this syrah. Paired very simply with hot Italian sausage with sauteed onion, red pepper and asparagus on a raw Maryland evening....perfect!

This was back when the JadeMtn wines were something pretty special. Before they were sold to the ChaloneGroup or Diageo or whoever.
Winemaker was DougDanilek...very/very skilled winemaker. Those grapes (Syrah & Viognier) are now vinified under the Paras Vnyd label
and absolutely first rate & Doug is the winemaker again for JimParas. JadeMtn also used to make an impressive Syrah from LeeHudson's
vnyd as well. Paras also makes a Nebbiolo that's very good.
Thanks for the note, Drew. Not surprised it's holding well.
