NEWS: Dee Vine goes all-German, moves

There's a piece of boilerplate where http://dvw.com/ normally is, announcing the temporary shuttering of the retail operation as they leave Pier 19 for Pier 50. Also, they're eliminating the French and Spanish wines to go all-German! That's exciting to me as I typically found the German wines much more to my taste. I will be watching their transition with interest.

My understanding is that is isn't temporary in the sense that they will no longer maintain a bricks-and-mortar retail location. They are transitioning to web-only retail along with wholesale.

A sad departure as attending many a tasting at Pier 19 was helpful to me not only as a consumer looking for delicious wines, but as an enthusiast seeking a deeper understanding of the context of these wines. Saturdays at DVW supplied me with both, that's for sure.

Oh, Keith, I know, I started off with a broad tasting of 2001s at Dee Vine, and was hooked. It's quite important to be able to taste, too, because even those producers whom I know well allow the profiles of the individual wines to vary from year to year. I really hope they re-establish a retail presence, even one that's not convenient to me, because it would be worth the trip.

I've heard various things about what will happen in the future, but the statement on the site right now is the only thing I've seen officially.
