2001 Paolo Scavino Barolo
Starting to develop some interesting aromatics. There's a distinct floral element that now rises above a tarry (and more than slightly oaky) base. It's still quite hard/tannic on the palate, but does have a back end perfume that is quite long. Seems to need more time, and be capable of gaining some more harmony with additional cellar time.

I did mention oak, but it was not overwhelming.

As Giuseppe Rinaldi says "I hope its never ready!" He seems to think the tannins, etc. create a dialogue between the drinker and the wine. He says there's never a right time to open his wines. Scavino is a so-called modernist, but not really. His use of oak is quite delicate I'm sure.

Agostino,

why do you say Scavino is 'not really' a modernist?
