WTN: 2004 Karly Zinfandel "Sadie Upton"

We had this last night. What a beautiful, fun wine! Lots of complexity still present, nice plum/prune thing going on, smoky finish. Last of my bottles from this vintage :(

The 04 Warrior Fires, which up until about six months ago I had a bottle of, is holding up well too. Karly deserves a lot of love for making interesting, age-worthy zins. Not many do.

I liked Karly when I was there about 5 years ago or so. (Note to self: Gotta visit nephew David!) They did seem a bit expensive. (Note to self: Remember what you're paying in DCV!)

You're right, Karly wines are typically about 40% more expensive than the median, but the wines are at least 60-70% better than most, so not the problem it appears to be. And the price would be cheap for a cabernet of similar relative quality. Still, not an everyday drinker price for most of us.

There are a couple of reasons why I buy a couple cases a year from David Coffaro.
1) I like them. Lots of oddball blends, and I like that too.
2) I'm still paying about $14/bottle. (Maybe that's a couple of dozen reasons.)
