Finally a dinner stopping CdP.

Until a couple of night ago I had never really 'experienced" a great CdP. I had tasted/consumed CdPs that were a about 12 years old as well as newer vintages. Some like the 1999 Don Jon last month were "Poopy". Others had a severe Syrah backbone or just didn't shine. Many were scored in the 90's by the pundits.

I pulled a 2000 Don de la Julienne to have with our dinner. It was astounding! The backbone was there but in the background, the tannins were firm but subtle, and the fruit kept on coming the longer the wine was in the glass. I am glad I have a couple more bottles in the cellar.
I love the life I live and live the life I love*, and as Mark Twain said, " Always do well it will gratify the few and astonish the rest".

Overall, 2000 is a very friendly vintage, and it's drinking well now. Some time down the road I think 2001 will be even better, but it needs time.

1999 is not a stunner, but I really like drinking the wines.

Isn't it great when that happens? ("That" being opening a bottle of wine at what seems like it's moment of absolute greatness.) Wish there was some method more perfect than trial-and-error for getting each bottle just right!
