I'm not exactly clear how it is linked to the economic troubles in Portugal, but the Beneficio has been cut back severely for this year (this is related to the amount of port that can be made), which may drive a lot of small growers out of business. Bad times in a region where it has always been hard to make a living. Here is a report on some protest in Regua by the small growers: http://www.thedrinksbusiness.com/2011/0 ... e-in-douro . Help these guys out and buy a bottle or twelve of port. I did my duty tonight by having a couple glasses of Fonseca Bin 27 after my dinner.
