What's better than a bottle of 09 Grezeaux?

2009 Bernard Baudry Chinon Les Grezeaux from magnum. Best showing I've had so far from this wine, showing incredible depth, purity and a beautiful perfume combining all sorts of deep fruited, herbal and savoury earthy elements. Flat out fantastic and I'm glad I really went long on this.

Thanks for taking one for the team. I will let mine sit a while...maybe.

Haven't had it yet. I believe it's being shipped late in fall.

Salil,
I'm happy to have you tell me how good the '09 Grezeaux is while mine sits slumbering in the cellar. I have yet to breach the '09 Granges and am awaiting the arrival of the '09 Estate so that I can finally sample what the '09 vintage is capable of chez Baudry. As David says, thanks for taking one for the team.

I think you're asking the wrong question. My guess would be the wine is shut down/not showing its best. So you should wait as long as possible. But if you can't wait you might get some pleasure with enough aeration, or perhaps catching a lucky window over the next few years.

I bought some 09 Grezeaux on faith after reading effusive praise for this wine from every quarter, year after year. My test bottle seemed wan and thin, though leftovers plumped up substantially after several days in a closed bottle, reminding me ever so slightly of 09 Clos Roche Blanche Cabernet. Everyone else seems to love the Grezeaux right out of the bottle, though, so think I am be missing something.

I recently chanced upon the Plouzeau Ante-Phylloxera featured as Salil's avatar, by the way, and was smitten.

09 Grezeaux is definitely not wan and thin. I doubt that was a representative bottle. See if you can crack another some time and if it's particularly different.

And yes, the Ante Phylloxera is a lovely wine. I must get some of the 07 soon...

I guess I'd better open another one.

The 07 Ante is what I had; it caused me to break my buying diet. Weygandt has them now.

I wasn't so thrilled with a bottle of the 09 Les Granges last night. I've liked previous vintages better. The Grezeaux sounds much more compelling.
