Before lunch at the L'Andana resort (Alain Ducasse), we sat down to a wine tasting where we were invited to score the wines and turn in our sheets at the conclusion.
IGT Maremma white Acquagiusta Bianco 2010 (Vermentino) Tenuta La Badiola
Pale color. Fruit descriptions from our group of pear, peaches, melon. Medium body, nice finish, nicely balanced. My score: 88 points.
IGT Maremma Rose' Acquagiusta Rosato 2010
Pale color--not even as dark as salmon--more a blush shade. Well chilled. Muted nose. Pomegranate, unripe strawberry. Not very intense or complex. 77 points.
IGT Maremma whie Acquadoro 2009
Chilled to the point where not much aroma came through. Pale in color. Slightly chewy texture. Some elegance. Somewhat acidic. 84 points
IGT Maremma red Acquagiusta Rosso 2008
50% Sangiovese, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot Almost a blueberry nose. Viscous. Dark scarlet color, semi-opaque. I liked this. 91 points
On another day in San Gimignano, I had a glass of Calice Chianti Classico (vintage not listed on wine list) for 4 Euro. Deeply scarlet, pretty much opaque. Medium body--perhaps lighter body than the appearance would suggest. Balanced. Cherry nose and flavors; not too earthy.
